It started with Anthony

Anthony was my first. I fed him what I believed was good food, because that's what the bag said and that's what everyone did. I loved him completely. I just didn't know.

Love made me ask questions

Years later, with Skye and now Cherise, I started turning the packet over. What is actually in this? Why is there grain in food for an animal that evolved on meat? Why do so many labels need a long story to explain what's inside? The more I asked, the more I realised that loving your dog and understanding what they eat are two different things.

What did I learn?

  • Feed the whole dog. Dogs are built for the whole animal: muscle, organ, tripe and the other parts nature intended, in the right proportions. They aren't built for just the easy cuts.
  • No fillers. No grain, no wheat, no maize and no bulking agents. Only what belongs in the bowl.
  • Raw can fit your life. The same whole-animal, grain-free Pets Elite raw comes in two formats:
    • Frozen Raw Mince: complete raw mince in 500 g packs, in Original, Beef or Fish, plus a Puppy recipe. Delivered frozen by refrigerated delivery. Keep it frozen and thaw it in the fridge before serving.
    • Dehydrated Raw: Pets Elite Dehydrated Raw Complete, slowly air-dried at low temperature so it stays raw. Serve it straight from the box, with no freezer needed, couriered nationwide. Available in Original or Beef.
  • Every dog is different. Age, size and activity all matter. If your dog has a medical condition or a special diet, speak to your vet before changing food.
  • Handle it like raw food. Frozen or dehydrated, it's raw meat. Wash your hands, bowls and surfaces after handling, and store it as directed on the pack.

Why Snout & Swagger exists

I started Snout & Swagger so other dog owners don't have to work all this out alone. We're a Cape Town store that only stocks what we'd feed our own dogs. We read the ingredients before anything reaches the shelf, and we'd rather explain one honest product than sell ten clever labels. Pets Elite is where we started. Everything we add from here meets the same standard.
