Pets Elite Achilles Heel
Why we stock it
Almost everything sold as an "Achilles chew" is tendon alone. This is the whole heel, with a section of the heel bone still attached, which makes it denser and slower to get through. That is the entire reason we stock it — for the dog who goes through a tendon in four minutes. It is a hard chew and it is not for every dog: puppies, older dogs with worn teeth and any dog with dental damage should have something softer.
What it is
A whole beef Achilles heel: the full tendon with a portion of the heel bone, dehydrated and preserved with vinegar. Pieces vary in size, colour and shape, because they come off different animals. Available in packs of four, five or ten.
Ingredients
Beef Achilles heel (tendon and heel bone), vinegar.
Vinegar is used during dehydration as a natural preservative.
Feeding and use
Give under supervision, with fresh water alongside. Take it away once it is small enough to swallow whole. Treats and chews should stay under about 10% of daily intake.
Suited to
- Determined chewers who finish a tendon in minutes
- Medium and large breeds
- Dogs on a single-protein or grain-free diet
- Owners who want one chew to occupy a dog for a while
Not suited to
- Puppies and dogs with milk teeth
- Older dogs with worn or damaged teeth
- Dogs who have fractured a tooth on a hard chew before
- Unsupervised chewing
Safety
Hard chews can fracture teeth. If your dog has had dental work, or is the sort to try to swallow a chew whole, choose something softer. Always supervise, and take the piece away when it gets small.
