Switching to raw, gently
Every dog's tummy finds its own pace. Raw is a big change from what most dogs are used to, so we never rush it. A slow, steady switch over about two weeks lets your dog settle in comfortably and look forward to every bowl.
- Days 1 to 3: three-quarters of their current food, one-quarter raw.
- Days 4 to 6: half and half.
- Days 7 to 10: one-quarter current food, three-quarters raw.
- Days 11 to 14: a full bowl of raw.
A more sensitive tummy? Take it slower and stay at each step for a few extra days. Many owners start with Pets Elite Dehydrated Raw as a gentle bridge before moving on to frozen.
Settling in. It's normal for stools to be a little looser or firmer in the first weeks while your dog adjusts. If that happens, step back to the stage that suited them, hold there for a few days, then move forward again. A natural chew such as our liver biltong treats can be a comforting part of the routine. If anything carries on longer than you'd like, check in with your vet, and remember we're always just a message away.
